About this deal

There is a background story which runs throughout the series but not reading the earlier novels won't leave you wondering what's happening in the later novels. I know there are about 20 other Rebus books out there so I’m taking my time, but it’s been a while since I found a series that truly interests me, and I’m curious to see where Rebus will take me next.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. It suits him and it suits Edinburgh, which comes more alive and is more recognisable than in the previous novel.Back to book two and you can see that Rebus character is not yet fully developed but again after reading books 19-22 already I am enjoying the transition to the Rebus of today. These are the dregs, a squalid society of addicts and derelicts, people long since disconnected from a society that is preoccupied with the new businesses and the new homes bringing prosperity to a city concentrating on advertising its quality of life. We know more about cancer today (not everything, of course, mainly because while our scientific knowledge may seem pretty advanced, the truth is that we are still less than a hundred years away from people thinking women and black people were intellectually inferior to white males. Replacement plain library binding, library marks to front, pages very tanned, tidy reading copy of the first edition.

But the real beauty, the true quality of the writing, is in the character development and the superb dialogue. Getting back to Rankin’s novel: published in 1990, “Hide and Seek” was written at a time when this horrendous shit was still a taboo subject. After reading the first book in the series, Knots and Crosses, I felt the ending was open ended and that I needed to read this second book.Real-life scandal2 Connections to other Rankin books3 Writing Hide and Seek4 ReferencesPlot summaryDetective Inspector John Rebus finds the body of an overdosed drug addict in an Edinburgh squat, laid out cross-like on the floor, between two burned-down candles, with a five-pointed star painted on the wall above. With so much behind my desire to read the books, and having heard so many great things, I went in with quite high expectations.

The sale of customised goods or perishable goods, sealed audio or video recordings, or software, which has been opened. The occult symbols on the wall attract his attention and although this is not his patch he retains an interest.

bestselling author of A SONG FOR THE DARK TIMES 'Ian Rankin is a genius' Lee Child 'Britain's best crime novelist' DAILY EXPRESS. Born in the Kingdom of Fife in 1960, Ian Rankin graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1982 and then spent three years writing novels when he was supposed to be working towards a PhD in Scottish Literature. But what we have instead is a culture that still, for the most part, sweeps the vile crimes that these fuckers commit under the rug.
