About this deal

This book isn’t just a wonderful way to enjoy experiencing someone else’s life in another country, or your adopted country if you, like me are an English expat, it is a way to get a real feel for what living in France is really like – warts and all.

A great read if you've done it you will appreciate every line of Janine's book , if you haven't don't let it put you off the end results are well worth it.

I want to be shown through imaginative word-crafted description, I want to be educated about life in France. Located in the bustling heart of Saint-German-des-Prés, just behind Église de Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the famous cafes Les Deux Magots and le Bonaparte cafe, this tiny place is a photographer’s delight. She begins to enjoy “The Good Life” in France as she gets to know people in her community and adjusts to the culture. The very last section detailed a lot of things expats moving to France should know about French law and French customs and culture that will help them.

We learn about the nearby town that is normally silent as a tomb, but that comes to life when Madame Magniez decides to bake some of her famous bread to sell. She describes the ins and outs of the French bureaucracy, French driving customs, and the proper way to kiss a person in greeting. At the top of her career, Janine eventually decided to give up her job in London and move with her husband to live the good life in France. Marsh captures the wonderful eccentricities of the people of this region, and on the whole I did really enjoy this. It was a well- rounded adventure and included acquiring four legged and two legged animals with compassion. We go beyond the guidebooks to bring you secret Paris – where every street corner has a story to share. Here in the countryside, people may not be wealthy or live in swish posh houses, but in so many ways the good life is all around if you take the time to find it. There isn't much that will beat a freshly baked baguette from the boulangerie, a hunk of cheese from the fromagerie, some fresh tomatoes from the marché and a cake from the pâtisserie. As I wind down from lunch with the family, and take a brief moment to relax and breathe before I start preparing the pastry for the Tarte Citron for our New Year’s Eve dinner party guests, I thought I’d pop in and wish you a very happy New Year!

I don’t want towns disguised as magnets, Mecca where it doesn’t belong, or views to die for…whatever they might be. It was lovely to read about places in Pas-de-Calais which I know so intimately, and have visited many times over the years. This is about living in and fixing up a several-hundred-year-old house with a small area of land in a small village in the north of France. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. All in all, a lovely book, some sad parts with the loss of family members but on the whole, a lovely read, thank you.
