track, but rather the superior Atmos mix, which makes it easier to just put the disc in and hit play instead of adjusting audio settings. Blade Runner 2049" was specially formatted for IMAX, enhancing its already immersive experience with larger-than-life visuals and an even more captivating cinematic journey. The original film touched upon these themes, but they are given more weight in 2049, which makes for a more engaging story. Blade Runner 101 (HD, 11:22) This is a collection of six short featurettes that can be watched using a ‘play all’ feature and look at the film's invented world, the design aspects and how they relate to the original film.

As you watch the film, you're going to have to face and come to terms with your own conclusions about various ideas and the themes the film raises - if you want to. The terrific score by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch sets the tone with low thundering bass notes that echo Vangelis' work on the first film but gives this film its own flavor. Rather than just taking scenes and replicating them, Villeneuve understood everything that was great about the original and used its DNA to craft a worthy successor.

Whether it’s the pores on K’s face, the fur collar of his leather jacket, the tiny details in the floors and walls of the furnace room where K has his apocryphal toy horse memory, or the vast piles of junk around the orphanage, this is 4K heaven all the way. It’s more modern, yet still holds some roots to the original style, such as the advertising on buildings and such as holograms. The Wallace corporation has not only took over Tyrell’s production of replicants but also entered the field of protein farms as well.

Bassheads, action junkies, and sci-fi aficionados are going to LOVE this mix, as it is easily one of the best Atmos mixes of the year. Bigger in scope, with more to grapple with and discern, it's a long watch but it's hard to take your eyes off it. And how many times did they take a totally mind boggling BORING scene and try to make something out of it with climatic music? To Be Human: Casting Blade Runner 2049 (HD 17:15) This is an interesting look at not just the casting of the major players but the numerous small roles that had recognizable actors but featured in small important ways. K's discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.Detail is pin-sharp, revelling in the visually opulent universe that's been created here, soaking up the increasing levels of battle damage that Gosling's K takes across the runtime, and taking in the lines on Ford's veteran's visage, whilst playing with the holo-glitching perfection of Joi. The sequel’s screenplay was written by by Hampton Fancher (back again) and Michael Green – the latter, best known for his writing work on films “ Alien: Covenant” (2017) and “ Logan” (2017). core which delivers the goods with aplomb, offering an audio ride that is almost as impressive as it was on the big screen, sweeping you up with the thunderous bass and oppressive score, but keenly prioritising even the smallest of elements to help bring the track - and film - to life. Use the thumbs up and thumbs down icons to agree or disagree that the title is similar to Blade Runner 2049.

The Prestige (3/5) - more modern 35mm source with a good quality Blu-Ray and remastered to new 4K release. This is artistic filmmaking at its finest, and represented perfectly in its home video 4K presentation. As usual, I wished they didn't compress the album as much - come on audio engineers, let's maybe aim for at least DR10 for these female "jazz" vocal albums please. This film takes place in Los Angeles and the year 2049, thirty years after the first film took place ( 2019).Many of them escaped and ran off to hide, leaving the Bladerunner section of the police force up and running (now made up of all generation 9s). The UHD Blu-ray was reviewed on a Samsung UE55KS8000 Ultra HD TV and a Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player. It’s a very intriguing story, although in fairness it can be a bit slow at times, and its overall story is something that makes more sense upon multiple viewings (for most). Lightning can only be caught in a bottle by pure luke (and some skill), and Blade Runner was so iconic that it’s like make a sequel to Citizen Kane right now.

However, following a firmware update yesterday to his Oppo 4K Blu-ray player, Atmos will now work on the UK/EU release too when it comes out on February 5th! It's exciting to watch Gosling handle the material when K starts to doubt everything he's been told and begins to believe he's made for more.Key kit used for this test: Samsung UE65Ks9500, Oppo 203 4K Blu-ray player, Panasonic UB900 4K Blu-ray player. It’s indescribably great, too, to hardly ever see a resolution ‘join’ between the film’s in-camera visuals and its digital effects. It might be heresy to those who adored the first Blade Runner, but I thought this was an even better flick than the first; kudos to Denis Villeneuve. Here's one where we can really see that the chroma channel "resolves" the scanlines composing electro-Joi quite noticeably. For this post, I want to show you what a " nearly 4K" movie presented on UHD Blu-Ray looks like resolution-wise.
